Mrs. Sarah Martinez

Grades 5-6

Sarah Martinez grew up in Blissfield, MI where she still lives today with my husband, Nick and daughter Isabella.

In 2013, she graduated from Bowling Green State University. Sarah’s first three years of teaching were spent in Ohio and New Jersey. Sarah has been at Sacred Heart for 5 years and teaches 5th-6th grade, K-6 general music, and 5-6 grade Band.

“I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be a teacher, so I could share my passions for learning and music. I believe all students are unique learners and I work to find the ways that work best for each student.”

Classroom Culture

Encouraging a love for reading is an important part of 5th and 6th Grade.  This year each student is working to complete at "40 Book Challenge".  This challenge is encouraging each student to read books that they might not have tried otherwise.

As a class, we are working to build the virtues of responsibility and perseverance. Students take on the tasks of using daily planners to keep track of homework, in addition to knowing what tasks need to be completed and having the perseverance to complete them in a timely manner.

Academics

A positive environment is kept in the classroom by keeping an open communication with students and parents. In our classroom, we are working to build learners who are confident and able to work with one another to encourage teamwork. We achieve this through positive reinforcement and a variety of leadership and team building activities.

Throughout each day, students work in a variety of small groups based on each student’s ability at that time. Students spend individual time with me, then move to practice on their own and finally work with their peers to build a balance for a variety of learning styles.
